Antiwar Public Meeting, 5pm Central Hotel Exchequer St. Dublin
The Taoiseach has told President Bush Ireland will support the efforts of the international community in the war against terrorism in every way open to it.
The Irish Anti-War Movement completely condemns the unqualified support which the Taoiseach has given President Bush in his war on terror. Ireland is supposed to be a neutral country. Dail Eireann has not given its consent for the Taoiseach to support the War on Terror.
The Irish people rejected the Nice Treaty because of their opposition to the loss of our neutrality. The Irish Anti-War movement has brought thousands of Irish people on to the streets against Bush's War. Also 56% of Irish people surveyed in an EU barometer survey said they were opposed to the use of Irish Airports by the US in its war on terror.
Bertie Ahern has shown his contempt for the democratically expressed wishes of the Irish people who want Ireland to remain neutral. Bush's war against Afghanistan has already massacred thousands of innocent civilians. He is now talking about targeting Iraq. We oppose this war and call on Bertie Ahern to represent the will of the Irish people and call on George Bush to end his war on terror.
Vincent Browne (Broadcaster and Journalist) is speaking at a public meeting organised by the Irish Anti-War Movement entitled Bush's Axis of Evil and the real cost of the war on Afghanistan. Also speaking is Mary Van Lieshout from US citizens for Alternatives to War and Richard Boyd Barrett from the Irish Anti-War Movement.
