Does the Irish Anti-War Movement condemn terrorist attacks enough?
Given the recent carnage in Kenya and Isreal, timed to coincide with
voting in Isreal, do members of and sympathisers with the Irish Anti-
War Movement feel that these terrorist attacks are condemned enough
by the critics of US foreign policy?
I know that one of the more off-putting aspects of getting more
involved in marches, demonstrations and campaigns to end US
aggression is the lack of even-handedness by many groups in failing
to condemn Palestinian terrorism or acknowledge the very real threats
presented by Islamic fundamentalists worldwide (for instance, nowhere
on this site is there a condemnation of the Bali bomb or any suicide
bombers in Isreal - and this site is supposed to be anti-war?).
Far from diluting the solid, pertinent arguments as to why the
actions and motivations of US and British foreign policies are
morally objectionable, I think it would strengthen the position of
the anti-war movement, presenting a more reasonable face to those who
fear the cause being subverted by out and out anti-US sentiment
rather than a true concern for human rights.
