Amnesty International presents Conor Gearty (London School of Economics), Clara Gutteridge (Reprieve) and Richard Boyd Barrett (Irish Anti-War movement) at a public talk to discuss the “war on terror”.

Human rights are under threat. After the tragic events of 11 September 2001 in the US, human rights have come under attack in a way unimaginable a few years ago. In the new security climate, governments have undermined international human rights standards that protect people from abuse. Some use it as an excuse to persecute their political opponents. Some use it as an excuse to torture. Torture does not stop terror. Torture is terror.

Don’t ignore it. You can stop it. Join us to find out more.

You will doubtless have seen coverage of the crisis which is
developing inside Burma at the moment. The involvement of the
Buddhist monks in the protests against the junta is an extraordinary
and powerful movement which promises hope for the people of Burma at last.

China is well-understood to be the major supporter of the Burmese
generals. BAI have decided to hold a protest demonstration outside
the Chinese Embassy in Dublin on Tuesday morning to encourage them to
change their stance on Burma. BAI will deliver a protest letter to
the Embassy and your support would very much appreciated if you could
come and join us at any time during the demonstration.

The Irish Anti-War Movement, supported by PANA and the NGO Alliance, is organising a major International conference against war and occupation on Saturday October 13th in the Royal Dublin Hotel. Our objective is to bring together key figures from countries in the brunt of the storm with anti-war activists here in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe. Tickets €10.00 at door or Purchase Ticket On-Line.  There also events in Galway and Derry.

The conference will challenge the myths and propaganda peddled by the main stream media and discuss practically how we can build the movement of resistance to war and occupation over the coming months. Unity of the anti war movement across organisational and territorial boundaries and solidarity with those who fight the illegal occupation of their country is what we seek. We must mobilise our support and push the Government not only through motions in the Dail but also in the streets through a major national demonstration planned for Nov 10th.
