All IAWM members are encouraged to attend this important demonstration supported by many diverse groups in soildarity with the refugees.
On the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack the world is anything but a safer place, especially for the people of the middle east where the legacy of post 9/11 US and EU policies are manifesting themselves in more terror, total destabilisation and the fleeing of traumatised men, women and children.
Irish people have shown through polls and pledges of accommodation that they are ahead of the Irish Government in seeking to assist these war-weary refugees. It is equally important that we force the US and EU Governments to stop fuelling and arming the wars that force these people to try desperate and dangerous means to leave their countries in the first place.
In 2008, Joseph Stiglitz estimated that the combined cost of the immoral and brutal Iraq and Afghanistan wars was $3,000,000,000,000. One Cruise Missile alone costs $1,500,000. How many of these rained down on Iraq and Afghanistan? How much needed health, education, housing, and environmental protection could have been provided by these funds wasted on destruction? And how many refugees would these huge expenditures now provide shelter for?
