ATTACK ON MOSQUE IN CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND

IRISH ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT (IAWM) PRESS RELEASE: 15 MARCH 2019

ATTACK ON MOSQUE IN CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND

The IAWM strongly condemns the attack against civilians in a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand which has left 49 dead so far and many more wounded. Our thoughts and sympathy go out to the victims and their loved ones at this awful time.

These mass killings have clear echoes of the attack in Norway by Anders Breivik in 2011. They were inspired by a racist, xenophobic ideology which is aided by the policies and utterances of Trump in the US and many EU Governments and groups who have castigated refugees and migrants many of whom are from the Muslim community because of the wars being waged in the Middle East.

Jim Roche PRO of the IAWM said:
“We can only end these terrorist attacks by ceasing to fuel the racist, xenophobic ideology that inspires them, by helping all refugees and by building a peaceful world instead of one of perpetual warfare.”
