Response to Independent Journalist Treatment by US
Thanks, that makes for interesting reading. I think the US policy on independent journalists is quite clear. It is interesting to note that the Iraqi Ministry of Information, which was bombed recently, while admittedly being the base of Iraqi government propaganda, was also the main base of just about every foreign journalist in Baghdad. I'd say the Americans were pretty eager to strike it. However this war is not going to be so easy to keep a lid on as the last Gulf conflict. Apart from the internet and mobile phone communication, the presence of two major independent Arab TV channels is going to be a real headache for the American propaganda effort. Al Jazeera would want to be careful, or they could end up getting targeted and bombed by the US again like they were in Afghanistan.
