Reactionary nature of AOH

Hi all,

the AOH's behaviour doesn't surprise me in the least. I came accross them when I was studying history years ago. The were on the right of the nationalist movement. Accordng to Margaret Ward in her book 'Unmanageable Revolutionaries' the AOH attacked  women's suffrage activists more than once.

A quote from a president of the time, Michael Judge, is interesting. He remarked that 'slender, stinging riding whips' should be used on any suffragist who approached Prime Minister Asquith.

More recently the AOH is the group that oppose Gay people marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade in New York. One of the arguments they used in a court case taken by Gay people in the early 90's (which the Gay activists lost) was that the St. Patricks Day Parade is private!

were against the women's suffrage movement at the beginning of the 20th century.
