Response to Is it my imagination or...
Right on, Eyal. You are absolutely correct.
This particular police officer appears to be working the New Year's Eve celebration in NYC in Times Square - a situation that always calls for heightened security, especially in this day in age. In any case, the cop pictured is wearing a standard NYPD uniform with a rifle (to guard against possible snipers) and protective (anti-riot) gear, which includes the underneath bulletproof vest and customary security helmet. No similiarity whatsoever - especially as it pertains to the "genuine" sense of his appearance - to Nazi accoutrement. This public servant, and others like him, are just standing out in the bitter cold, providing security and protecting the safety and welfare of innocent citizens - NYC natives and tourists. And doing a damn good job of it at that.
Looks like a Nazi soldier, does he? I wonder what he would have to say about that. Why don't you write a letter to Ray Kelly (NYPD Commissioner) relaying your "imaginative" observation? And all of a sudden all "American" cops are beginning to resemble Nazi soldiers based on this one photograph? Can they wear protective gear without projecting a fascist appearance, in your opinion? What about you, Padraig?
