Response to 100% right
No that is not my opinion and that does not follow from my argument. In the circumstances described any right of intervention by any UN member is very heavily circumscribed indeed. The entire basis of the UN collective security system is that strong states don't prey on weak states. It was the Hobbsian world of mid-20th century militarism by the axis powers that gave birth to the UN system. But it seems to me that some antiwar commentators wish to go further than the UN does and outlaw any infringement of another nation's sovereignty irrespective of the behaviour of the regime in question either towards its neighbours or its own people. That is an extreme position which would give license to the Saddams of this world to attack their neighbours and commit genocide and wholesale repression of their own people.
