The IAWM today welcomed the impending release of Wikileaks founder and journalist Julian Assange.
Julian’s lawyers have agreed on some kind of a plea deal with the US Government that will allow Julian to walk free after 5 years incarcerated in Britain’s most notorious Belmarsh Prison.
We understand from media reports that Julian is on a plane to Saipan, where this will be agreed before a judge.
He will then hopefully be released.

“This is a joyous day for Julian, his wife Stella, his two kids, his parents and all his family and all his supporters around the world who campaigned for his release. We send them all our best wishes. Julian is a journalist who exposed the war crimes of the US military in Afghanistan and Iraq and other places. He should never have been imprisoned. He has effectively been psychologically tortured and physically deprived for 5 years in the notorious Balmarsh prison in the UK.
This should also be taken as a victory for investigative journalism. Of course, we have to wait and examine the exact details are of the plea deal, but right now it’s time for relief and celebration for Julian and his family. All peace loving-loving, anti-war activists are happy today.”
