The hearing of the appeal by the US Government against the decision of a British Court not to extradite
Julian Assange to the USA will be held on 27th and 28th October. The solidarity events this Saturday are
part of a global campaign to raise awareness of the plight of Julian Assange and to call for his immediate
release from prison.

The awareness campaign here in Ireland includes a letter sent to Minister Simon Coveney by various
groups, asking him to speak up for the imprisoned journalist and publisher. The letter can be read and
signed here - https://my.uplift.ie/petitions/ask-minister-simon-coveney-to-speak-up-fo...
Jim Roche, PRO of the IAWM said:
“This is such an important case, not just for Julian Assange himself but for the cause of investigative
journalism and press freedom. Julian is effectively a political prisoner and is being punished by the
United States and Britain simply because he exposed their war crimes and corruption. That is why we
are calling for defenders of human rights everywhere, including within the Irish Government, to speak out
and call for Julian’s release.“
