IRISH ANTI WAR MOVEMENT (IAWM) PRESS RELEASE – 01 December 2023

The IAWM condemns the resumption of the bombing of Gaza by Israel this morning from 5am Irish time. Already there are civilian casualties including deaths in Khan Younis. The hope of the last few days of a temporary peace, release of hostages on both sides and the bringing of vital humanitarian aid to displaced refugees in Gaza has this morning been shattered by Israeli air strikes.
That is why more than ever we need to keep protesting for Palestine and so the IAWM supports the IPSC protests planned for tomorrow – IPSC PROTEST DUBLIN 02 DEC. and IPSC PROTESTS FOR PALESTINE AROUND IRELAND
While the release of hostages is welcome the treatment of Palestinian hostages by Israel has been very severe. Many, including children, have reported on their release this week of multiple methods of violence and punishments used against them by the Israeli occupation forces, which increased in intensity since 07 October.
Meanwhile, as the hostage exchange continued up until yesterday, Israel pursued its illegal military raids in the West Bank. A nine-year-old child and a teenager among others were killed by Israeli sniper fire in Jenin. Several premature babies were left to decompose in a Gaza hospital. These actions are beyond depravity.

“We must challenge the nonsense narrative that this is a war against Hamas and that Israel has a right to defend itself. This is a war against all the civilians of Palestine and Israel has no legal right to defend itself in a land that it occupies. It has no right to be in Gaza and the West Bank – it should get out. It becomes clearer every day that Israel wants to cleanse Gaza and the West Bank of all Palestinians. Israel is using the Hamas attack on 07 October to commit genocide against the Palestinian people. We must continue to protest and to force the Irish Government to sanction Israel.”
