ANTI G8 EVENTS THIS COMING WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK

IAWM BULLETIN 11 JUNE 2013

1. ANTI G8 EVENTS THIS COMING WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK

The G8 are the leaders of the eight richest countries on earth – the USA, Germany, Britain, France, Japan, Canada, Italy, and Russia. This year the G8 summit will take place near Enniskillen on 17 and 18 June.

They will gather to co-ordinate policies for defending privilege and reviewing how best to compete for control of the world’s natural resources. The policies of the G8 and its associates result in horrific inequality around the world. They are also highly connected with the corporate military industrial complex and international arms trade that result in so many devastating wars.

Various organizations have organized a series of counter G8 events as detailed below that IAWM members and supporters may be interested in.

SATURDAY 15 JUNE
Belfast for the ICTU anti-G8 events:

The BIG March for a fairer world, assemble at 12.00 noon at Custom House Square, Belfast, rally at City Hall. Event ends at 2pm to allow people to attend other anti G8 events that afternoon and evening. See this weblink for details – http://www.ictu.ie/download/pdf/ictu_g8_layout_1_2.pdf

Some of us are going to this using public transport. If you wish to join us and help with holding IAWM banners on the march please contact 087 6472737.

SUNDAY 16 JUNE
G8 Counter Summit from 10.00am, Ramada Encore, St Annes Square, Belfast organized by G8 Alternatives  – http://www.swp.ie/content/g8-counter-summit
