Haifa Zangana is an Iraqi artist and writer who lives in London. She was imprisoned and tortured in Abu Graib in 1971 under the Saddam Hussein regime. She worked with the PLO in Damascus before moving to London in 1976. In 2002 she co-founded Act Together: Women’s Action for Iraq and was Chair of Iraqi Patriots in Media and Culture (IPMC). In 2005 she worked as an adviser for the United Nations Development Programme and a founding member of the International Association of Contemporary Iraqi Studies (IACIS). Her most recent book about Baghdad ‘City of Widows’ is published by Seven Stories Press.

Denis Halliday is a former UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Resources. A 34-year veteran of the UN he served as its Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq beginning from September 1997, but resigned thirteen months later in protest over the devastating effects of the U.N. sanctions characterising them as ‘genocide’. Since then he has been an active campaigner against foreign military intervention in Iraq and elsewhere. In 2003 Dennis Halliday was presented with the Gandhi International Peace Award in recognition of his work drawing attending to the plight of Iraqis.

If you are against war and torture come along and help with our stall this Saturday. We will also be doing postering runs around the city centre for our national Anti-War Demo on the following Saturday 15 March.
