DAY OF ACTION FOR YEMEN THIS MONDAY – STOP THE WAR NOW!

IRISH ANTI WAR MOVEMENT BULLETIN – 23 JANUARY 2021
DAY OF ACTION FOR YEMEN – STOP THE WAR NOW!
The IAWM is asking all its members and supporters to join with multiple organisations and activists around the world to support the Day of Action for Yemen which occurs on this Monday 25 January.
There are multiple Covid-safe online events happening around the world including the UK’s Stop the War Coalition Global Online Rally at 7pm on Monday which you can register for through this link. The speakers include
Ahmed Al-Babati (British-Yemeni Soldier)
Dr. Shireen Aladeimi
Apsana Begum MP
Jeremy Corbyn MP
Danny Glover (Actor)
Daniele Obono (French National Assembly Member)
Yanis Varoufakis (MeRA25 Secretary-General)
Dr. Cornel West
Over 230,000 Yeminis have been killed in this war which has also resulted in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis whereby 24 million people including 80% of Yemini children (12.3 million) are dependent on and in desperate need of humanitarian aid. The country is in danger of a massive famine which could devastate an entire generation of Yemenis.
This catastrophe was all avoidable.
Western Governments have supported the bombing of Yemen by the Saudi / UAE coalition. The UK based Campaign against the Arms Trade (CAAT) estimates that over £15B. worth of weapons have been sold by the US, Britain, Canada, Spain, France and Italy to Saudi Arabia since the war started.
Why cannot such monies be used to feed the starving and cure the sick instead?
While there may be atrocities and human rights abuses on both sides of the internal conflict within Yemen as documented by Amnesty International in this report – https://www.amnesty.org/en/countries/middle-east-and-north-africa/yemen/report-yemen/ – there is no doubt that this horrific war has been exacerbated and prolonged by the interference and support for one side by western governments particularly those of the US and Britain.
This must stop now!

We call on the new US President Joe Biden to use his influence to stop this senseless war. The Irish Government should likewise make this call by once and for all ceasing the facilitation to the US Military at Shannon Airport.
Support and join in with some of the online events this Monday. More information here – https://www.stopwar.org.uk/world-says-no-to-war-on-yemen-25-jan-2021/
