The Irish Anti-War Movement (IAWM) will host a debate this evening (June 22nd) at 7.00pm in the Gresham Hotel in Dublin on the topic: "Israel: Is Boycott the Answer?"
Representatives of all the major political parties were invited to address the debate. Confirmed speakers to date are as follows:
- Joe Costello TD (Labour Party)
- Richard Boyd Barrett (Chairperson, IAWM)
- Mags O Brien (Trade Union Friends of Palestine)
The debate is being organised following the recent tragic events with the Gaza peace flotilla, where the terrible plight of the people of Gaza was once again highlighted to the international community.
The Irish Anti-War Movement and other Palestinian solidarity groups, both here and internationally, believe that sanctions similar to those imposed on Apartheid South Africa need to be imposed on Israel to secure justice and human rights for the people of Palestine.
The purpose of the debate is to have a discussion with representatives of the main political parties in this country as to whether such a boycott is justified and if it will be effective.
