The Irish Anti-War Movement

EGYPT PROTESTS – SOLIDARITY PROTESTS AT GPO, DUBLIN TODAY AT 4-6PM.

The Irish Anti-war Movement supports protest in Dublin this afternoon in solidarity with protests in Egypt
Protest at the GPO on O’Connell Street today, 4 Feb, at 4pm – 6pm.
In a statement today the Irish Anti-War Movement, joining with the Egyptian community in Ireland, called on its members to support the mass uprising in Egypt which calls for the resignation of Dictator/President Hosni Mubarak.
Hundreds of protestors have been killed and thousands have been injured since the uprising began on 25 January. The regime is refusing to budge and is effectively allowing the country to fall into chaos rather than heed the call for democracy. There are now widespread reports from many sources that hired men were deployed by the regime to disrupt peaceful protests and wreak havoc. The situation is very dangerous, particularly if food and fuel supplies begin to run out.

Richard Boyd Barrett, Chair of the IAWM, said “governments around the world must be placed under pressure by their own people to cut their ties with the Mubarak regime. The protest this afternoon will show the Irish government that we want them to sever ties with this dictatorial regime and do all they can to support the success of the pro-democracy revolution. The silence from the Irish political parties on the situation in Egypt is deafening.”
“Our protest will also show those courageous revolutionaries in Egypt that they have our support and that they do not stand alone.”
