GALWAY ALLIANCE AGAINST WAR
MONDAY 25th February
Rhuhel Ahmed is a British citizen, who spent over 2 years in Guantanamo. You may recall he was to speak at an event in January at Liam Mellows statue, but at the last minute had to cancel due to his wife taking ill.
Now he is definitely coming to Galway and will speak upstairs at a public meeting in Richardsons of Eyre Sq this coming Monday, 25th February at 8pm. It is a unique opportunity to learn about life in the infamous US Guantanamo prison camp as well as what it means to be renditioned by the CIA.
We are pleased to announce that the event is being jointly organised by with Amnesty International. On the night we will also show an excellent documentary: Outlawed- Extraordinary Rendition . Jameen Knaur of Amnesty will introduce the documentary and explain AI s forthcoming campaign in support of torture-free airports.
Rhuhel Ahmed was kidnapped along with two friends from Tipton in England while attending a wedding in Pakistan in 2001. They were renditioned by the CIA and transported possibly via Shannon airport to Guantanamo. The film The Road to Guantanamo is based on their experiences.
