GALWAY ALLIANCE AGAINST WAR PRESS RELEASE
On Sunday 12th October during the evening the spokesperson for the Galway Alliance Against War (GAAW),
Niall Farrell, received a death threat on his mobile phone. This is the third threatening phone call he has received this year.

Back in March Mr Farrell answered his mobile phone to be told by a male caller that he was going to be shot “like your  fucking sister”.

Mr Farrell’s sister Mairéad was killed along with two other unarmed IRA members by the British SAS in March 1988 in Gibraltar.

That call not only coincided with the 20th anniversary of those killings, but with preparations by the Galway peace group to attend an international
anti-war demonstration in Dublin the following weekend. Niall Farrell’s mobile number had appeared in the local press as the contact for those
wishing to travel on the GAAW bus to the Dublin demonstration.

The most recent death threat call coincided with the monthly peace vigil at Shannon airport, which is organised by the local branch of Amnesty
International. A large group of Galway Alliance Against War members had travelled down to Shannon for the Sunday vigil.

Said Niall, “It is a sinister coincidence that I received that call on the same day GAAW members had participated in a peace event. It was as though we as a group
were being warned to stay away from Shannon airport or else.

“ The Shannon airport vigil was not referred to. The caller stated: ‘We have not forgotten about you…We are going to deal with you.’ I am pretty certain
it was the same caller who threatened to have me shot.

The Gardaí were able to establish the number from which the original call was made and have established that it was a mobile number registered to a bogus name and
address. What puzzles both my lawyer and myself is that the Gardaí do not seem to have investigated what other numbers this mysterious mobile phone
has been used to contact. Surely this would be the logical step and one I suggested in writing last May."

LOOKS AS IF THE GARDAI ARE PUTTING AS MUCH EFFORT INTO TRACING THIS NUISANCE CALLER AS THEY ARE INTO CHECKING CIA AND USAF PLANES AT SHANNON!
