The Irish Anti-War Movement

Galway meeting: Syria:- Refugees and War. Why is this happening, and what can we do?

Galway meeting: Syria:- Refugees and War. Why is this happening, and what can we do?

Public meeting Wednesday 30th September 7pm
Venue: Upstairs at Richardson’s Bar, Eyre Square.

We are hearing a lot about Syria in the last while regarding refugees, civil war, and foreign interventions. The biggest group of refugees coming
to Europe at the moment are Syrians. Governments are under pressure from populations to let more refugees into their countries, but what are the
problems causing Syrians to flee and why are they heading here? What can we do here in Ireland to support the people of Syria?

Since 2011 Syria has been transformed into a warzone. Increasingly external powers have become involved backing their faction allies.
Meanwhile ISIS has exploited the situation. What are the motives of USA and Russia? And how is Syria linked to the British Prime Minister’s assertion
that Labour under their newly elected leader Jeremy Corbyn is “a threat to national security”?

There will be a public meeting debating these questions, held  upstairs at Richardson’s Bar in Eyre Square, on Wednesday 30th September, at 7pm,
facilitated by the Galway branch of the Socialist Workers Party.

This public meeting addressed by retired lecturer John Molyneux of the Socialist Workers Party will also examine the broader issues of immigration
and border controls, war, Capitalism and Imperialism, and discuss the alternatives.
