The Irish Anti-War Movement

Galway Shows Solidarity with Gaza SAT. 3/1/9

A number of people attended a vigil in Galway today, Monday 29th December as part of a world-wide response to the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. The Galway event received an excellent and supportive response from folk passing by, and although the gathering was peaceful there was a great deal of anger at the war being waged on Gaza.

Participants from a number of groups including Galway Alliance Against War and The Galway Palestinian Childrens fund, have agreed to call a

demonstration against Israel’s  bombardment and siege of Gaza

on Saturday 3 January at 12.30.

People are asked to assemble at the Wilde Statue at the top of Shop Street in Galway.

It is proposed to have speeches from a number of local politicians, Galway Alliance Against War, the Galway Islamic community, and various Palestinian groups, along with music and readings.

“Without justice there can be no peace,” said Dette Mc Loughlin, one of the organisers. “Please gather with us on Saturday in a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people, and also to demand action by the Irish government, the EU and the UN.”
