GALWAY TO GAZA ‘BRIDGE THE GAP’

Last Christmas we all watched in horror the deadly Israeli attacks on Gaza in which 1,415 Palestinians were killed, including 318 children and over 5,000 injured. On average, 13 children were killed each day of the offensive.

In Galway we held demonstrations against this brutal attack & gathered medical supplies & essentials for the families in Gaza, sending over 4 containers.  These containers are still being held in the Egyptian port, despite all the efforts of Treasa Ni Cheannabhain from Galway Palestine Children’s Charity, who went to Alexandra to get the supplies into Gaza.

One year later, on New year’s day, we marched to the Salmon Weir Bridge to show our solidarity with the people of Gaza and the many peace activists who are trying to break the siege.  Three young Irish women are currently in Cairo, prevented from entering Gaza for "The Gaza Freedom March’ and who have been subjected to Egyptian police brutality and more are on their way with Viva Palestina, bring in ambulances and supplies from Ireland.

We will not forget the people of Palestine, especially those trapped in the world’s largest prison that Gaza has become.  We call for justice for the men, women and especially the children of Gaza and will continue to work to break this illegal & inhumane siege in 2010.
