Galway Alliance Against War marked the 5th anniversary of the Iraq war on Thursday 20th March in the centre of the city. 50 GAAW members assembled in Shop St. Galway and formed a human chain to express their opposition to the war and the Irish state’s complicity in the conflict. A minute’s silence was held in memory of the million or more killed in the unnecessary war.

Four large placards were displayed to display GAAW s message:

1 Million Deaths
1 Million US Troops Through Shannon
1 Minute s Silence
Amongst those demonstrating were Labour TD Michael D. Higgins and Independent Councillor Catherine Connolly, Niall Farrell GAAW PRO who has recently received death threats because of his peace activity, and Treasa Ni Cheannabhan with her daughter, recently returned from Gaza.
