2. PROTESTS AT EGYPTIAN EMBASSY IN DUBLIN
There will be more protests at the Egyptian Embassy on Clyde Road, Dublin 4 in the days, weeks and months ahead by the Irish Egyptian Community and their supporters, including the Irish Anti-war Movement, in solidarity with the Egyptian people. Check out our website for information on these protests and for interesting articles on the momentous events in Egypt – www.irishantiwar.org

The Irish Anti-war Movement expresses total solidarity with the Egyptian people in their struggle to get rid of the brutal dictatorship of Hosni Mubarak. Despite the unprecedented talks with some opposition leaders, which are little short of a diversionary tactic by a besieged corrupt regime, the ordinary people of Egypt are still protesting on the streets of Cairo and Alexandria.

Western leaders duplicitously continue to court Mubarak, and/or a possible successor from within his circle that they can do business with, while attempting to scare the Egyptian people and us with the spectre of the two bogeymen of Islamic or Military dictatorship. Replacing Hosni Mubarak with Omar Suleiman, the Director of the feared Egyptian General Intelligence Services (EGIS) since 1993 (aka ‘Minister for Torture’) and the CIA’s direct Egyptian link in the US Government rendition to torture programme, would be equivalent to replacing Adolf Hitler with Joseph Goebbels.

The Egyptian people understand this, as many of them have suffered torture under this regime. That is why they will stay on the streets until the regime falls, and it is why we must continue to support them with solidarity protests here in Ireland.
