3.00pm – 4.30pm: The Egyptian Revolution
5.00pm – 6.30pm: Uprisings in Libya and the Arab world and the dangers of Western Intervention.
In a statement issued today the Irish Anti-war Movement noted that western military intervention in Libya will make things much worse for the Libyan people and for the whole region. The rebels are resisting Gaddafi and the momentum needs to be maintained. Western intervention could throw a life line to Gaddafi. UN or NATO bombing of Libya would allow him to champion Libyan independence in a country which has a long history of savage imperial intervention.
Recently elected TD, Richard Boyd Barrett, chair of the Irish Anti-war Movement, said that “the incoming Irish government should raise its voice against UN or NATO intervention in the Libyan people’s revolution and to refuse the use of air facilities for US troops on their way to the region. Instead the government should call for medical and humanitarian aid to assist the rebels in their battle for democracy.”

2. National Demonstration in support of the Libyan Uprising, Saturday 12 March, 12.00 noon, Central Bank, Dame Street, Dublin.
The Libyan people have been in intense struggle for weeks to overthrow the dictatorial regime of Col. Gadaffi. They struggle for democracy and for the peaceful transition to a socially just society in the future. They have been met with military brutality, including the shooting and bombing of innocent unarmed people.
Members of the Libyan Community in Ireland have called a National demonstration in support of The Libyan Uprising for this Saturday 12 March, to assemble at Central Bank, Dame Street at 12.00 noon and march to the EU HQ on Molesworth Street and to the Dáil. The protest is supported by the Irish Anti-war Movement.
3. Shannonwatch Vigil Sunday 13th March 2 – 3pm
Location: At small roundabout just before airport entrance.
This Sunday’s vigil in Shannon (Mar 13th) is an opportunity to deliver a clear and simple message to the incoming Irish government: the use of Shannon Airport and Irish airspace by the US military and CIA rendition crews must end immediately.
As a state we are in contravention of the Hague Conventions on neutrality, we are undermining international humanitarian law (including the Geneva Convention), and we are allowing violations of international human rights law to take place.
As a people we have a moral responsibility to demand justice, peace, dignity and human rights protection for all our fellow beings, be they in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, or Guantanamo Bay Detention Centre.
These obligations should not be obscured by political deal making or dubious prospects of short-term economic gain.
Come to Shannon for one hour on Sunday to help deliver this message.
