The Irish anti-war Movement (IAWM) issued a statement today supporting the IPSC call for a solidarity protest for the people of Gaza today at the Spire in Dublin at 2pm. This will coincide with protests in other Irish cities to be held at the same time. See here for details –

The IAWM statement noted that Israel’s latest military onslaught on the people of Gaza amounts to nothing less than state terrorism. There are now well over 100 people killed with a quarter of these being children. The latest atrocity was the aerial bombing this morning of a mosque, which was a centre for disabled youth; killing 14 people some of who were disabled.
The statement totally condemned Israel’s policy of harsh, collective punishment on the entire Palestinian people. It also condemned the silence of western leaders and the western media that it claimed acts like a PR machine for the Israeli state.

“Once again we see the well-armed, terror State of Israel raining down violence on a defenceless people while the response from western political leaders and most of the western media is one of complicity and distortion – if not outright support – of Israeli actions. This latest onslaught has little to do with ineffective rockets being fired from Gaza. It is designed purely to collectively punish the Palestinians for the murder of 3 Israeli teenagers and to scupper the Fatah / Hamas unity pact. It is shameful that western political leaders are supporting this carnage in Gaza and that the western media is so distortive in its reportage.”
He continued:
"We heard the new Táiniste, Joan Burton, this week parrot the same meaningless nonsense of "calling on both sides to show restraint" in a response to a question in the Dáil. It shows she’s just like her predecessor, beholden to her US masters and afraid to expose the true nature of the continued suppression and horrible violence against the people of Palestine".
