While condemning the brutal invasion of Ukraine by Vladimir Putin and supporting the right of the Ukrainian people to resist and defend their sovereign country the IAWM believes that Nato also bears a huge responsibility for creating tensions in Ukraine. The recent ratcheting up of the war by both sides (Russia and NATO) both militarily and rhetorically, the prospect of a long war of attrition and the constant and ever threatening risk of a nuclear incident only prolongs the suffering for the people of Ukraine.
It is the firm belief of the IAWM that a non-military, diplomatic and peaceful solution must be found to end this war.
We stand with those brave Russians civilians who have protested against Putin’s barbaric war and with anti-war protesters internationally who have condemned both the invasion by Putin and the war mongering of their own governments. We condemn the rush by many Irish politicians and commentators to abandon Ireland’s traditional stance of military neutrality. A move towards more militarisation is not the answer to this war.
We are calling on people who seek a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine to join us at this public meeting to hear and discuss how the anti-war movement can both help the Ukrainian people yet challenge the predominant war mongering narrative from western governments.
