IAWM SUPPORTS NEW YEAR’S EVE VIGILS FOR PALESTINE TAKING PLACE AROUND IRELAND

The IAWM is participating in, and is calling on its supporters to attend if possible, one of the many vigils for Palestine organised around Ireland on this New Year’s Eve 2024.

The main IPSC VIGIL will occur from 2pm at the Ha’penny Bridge in Dublin.

The latest figures released by the Palestinian Government Media Office for the death and destruction caused by Israel’s genocidal onslaught over the last 450 days. These include:

  • Israel has dropped more than 88,000 tons of explosives on the Gaza strip. This is more than was dropped on Vietnam over several years of war there and represents four times the explosive power of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. This is all in an area half the size of County Louth.
  • Israel has committed 9,973 massacres (killing many people at one time by bombing or shelling). 70% of the victims are women and children.
  • Almost 57,000 killed and missing persons. 45,514 of those reached hospitals and hence were recorded whereas 11,200 did not reach hospitals and hence not recorded.
  • 1,413 whole Palestinian families killed, gone off the register, 3,467 Palestinian families with only one surviving member
  • 17,818 children killed, most under the age of 5 years, including 238 infants born and killed during the genocide
  • 12,287 women killed
  • 1,068 medical staff killed
  • 94 civil defence / first responders and 728 police officers killed
  • 201 journalists killed (higher than in WW2)
  • 520 exhumed from mass graves on grounds of targeted hospitals
  • 10,000 abducted and detailed without trial including 331 medical – including now Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya – 43 media, and 26 civil defence personnel. Some of these prisoners (over 30) have been tortured, raped and killed according to investigative reports by the Israeli human rights group B’tselem, the US-based Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Three of those killed were medical personnel.

Jim Roche, PRO & Secretary, Steering Committee, IAWM said:

“These latest statistics are truly horrifying and capture the apocalyptic nature of Israel’s genocide on the people of Gaza. Through its inaction, the Irish Government is complicit in this genocide. That is why we must continue to pressurise the Government to enact the Occupied Territories Bill, to stop the Central Bank from selling war bonds, to stop selling beef to the Israeli army, to close Irish airspace to all flights with arms on route to Israel, to close Shannon Airport to the US military and to cut all diplomatic, economic and academic ties with the apartheid, genocidal state of Israel.”
