After months of provocations, Israeli state repression and settler attacks have resulted in a widespread anti-colonial uprising of Palestinian youth. Israel has sought to put down this movement with extreme violence – at least 30 Palestinians have been killed, while over 1,300 have been wounded by live fire or rubber-coated steel bullets since the beginning of the month.

Once again, when Palestinians are under attack from a heavily armed occupation military, our government remains silent, and refuses to take action to sanction Israel, even when it’s leaders openly declare they have no interest in ever giving up the occupied Palestinian territories.

This is not a war between two equal sides – it is a struggle between oppressor and oppressed, the coloniser and the colonised.

2. ‘Academic Voices from Palestine’ public meeting,
Wednesday 14 Oct, 7.30pm, JM Synge lecture theatre, Arts Block, Trinity College Dublin.

The event is organised by Academics for Palestine in association with the Irish School of Ecumenics, TCD. It is the first in a series of meetings addressing the state of Palestinian higher education under occupation and siege.

A GROUP of Palestinian academics will tell a Dublin audience about how Israel systematically targets education in the besieged Gaza strip.
The public meeting at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) this Wednesday evening comes as Israel increases its attacks in the West Bank and Gaza, killing dozens of mostly young Palestinians in recent days.

Many have already dubbed the growing resistance in Palestine the beginning of a third intifada.

The distinguished panel of speakers includes:

Dr Ayman Shaheen, a professor of political science at Al Azhar University, Gaza;

Suha Shaheen, an IT lecturer at Al Quds Open University in Gaza;

Dr Yaser Al Ashqar, from Gaza and now lecturing at the Irish School of Ecumenics, TCD

Malaka Mohammed, a writer and activist from Gaza who now studies and teaches at the University of Exeter.

The meeting takes place in the JM Synge lecture theatre in the arts block at TCD at 7.30pm.

Admission to the event is free and all are welcome.

Academics for Palestine was founded in Ireland in 2013. Responding to the Palestinian call for a boycott of Israeli academic institutions, it campaigns to urge Irish-based academics to support the boycott, and to support Palestinian academics and students.
