The Bosphorus has been a truly cross-cultural collaboration. While the philosophy of the songs is truly “western” they get their soul and energy from the unmistakable and very distinctive Eastern rhythms…

Following a string of inventive and original albums released by Joyce since 2000 such as Mono 2 Songs for Voice and Guitars of Various Persuasions” released 2005 was chosen by Jackie Hayden of Hotpress as their “Pick of the Fortnight” and he had some nice things to say such as “… emerging artist who sidesteps singer songwriter cliché .. Kamikazi Moon offers Spanish and Middle Eastern inflection that gives it real charm”

…. However the plan for the next album was to have a strong percussive vibe running through the album… allied to a tension / connection between the east and west……….

In early 2007, the new album The Bosphorus began in earnest and work continued in Turkey with local musicians (ISMIRA PERKUSYON GRUP). Alongside recording, a number of gigs were staged in Turkey as part of the wider project of cross cultural interconnectivity with – in Joyce’s words – “our eastern brothers/sisters” under the production title “Flesh and Blood”.

At a recent Anti War gig which also featured legend Christy Moore in Vicar Street the response to the performance was further proof that the music takes on even greater heights in a live setting ……. definitely worth checking out … dance & listen or just listen or just dance .. a unique and inspiring experience guaranteed.
