IRISH ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT TO HOLD PROTEST AT EGYPTIAN EMBASSY IN SOLIDARITY WITH DEMOCRACY PROTESTERS
Press Release – Jan 31st
The Irish Anti War-Movement and the Arab Solidarity Movement are holding a further picket of the Egyptian Embassy, Clyde Road. Ballsbridge. Dublin 4, at 2.30pm today 31st January in solidarity with protesters in Egypt who are demanding democracy and an end to the dictatorship of President Hosni Mubarak.
It is clear that the protesters in Egypt are refusing to leave the streets until President Mubarak steps down. The new Egyptian cabinet has now called the police back on to the streets and low flying military aircraft were yesterday harassing the protesters in Cairo.
The Irish Anti War movement has condemned the killing of at least 100 people and the beatings and imprisonment of several thousand protesters.

IAWM Chairperson, Richard Boyd Barrett said:
“The situation is now very precarious and it is so important that we maintain our support for the protesters who are struggling for real democracy. The return of the police to the streets, the ambiguous role of the army, the media blackout and the continued ambiguous statements by western leaders does not necessarily bode well. It is therefore essential that we show our solidarity here in Ireland with the protesters in Egypt calling for democratic change.
We are calling on all western leaders including the Irish Government, to issue statements supporting the demands of the protesters for an end to the Mubarak regime and for open and free elections.”
