IRISH ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT (IAWM)
PRESS RELEASE – 05 July 2021
• IRISH GOVERNMENT MUST ACT ON ISRAEL’S ILLEGAL DEMOLITION OF PALESTINIAN HOMES
• SUPPORT THE IPSC PROTEST AT DÁIL EIREANN AGAINST THE EVICTIONS IN SILWAN, EAST JERUSALEM
• END ISRAELI APARTHEID
The facts that led to the last war on Gaza, namely the daily subjugation, arrests and killing of Palestinians and the threat of evictions and demolitions, are still an ever present daily experience for all Palestinians. If anything the situation experienced by Palestinians in Sheikk Jarrah and around the Al Aqsa Mosque in May have got worse.

Since the latest ceasefire thousands have been arrested and detained including in one case an 11-year old child, throughout the West bank, East Jerusalem and within Israel itself. They have been detained simply because they are Palestinians who stood up and protested against Israel’s colonial project. Gaza has been bombed three times by the Israeli military since the ceasefire.
There have been targeted killings of Palestinians including teenagers while the demolition of Palestinian homes and other buildings continues unabated. The latest flashpoint is Silwan in illegally occupied and Israeli-annexed East Jerusalem where 1,500 Palestinians are under threat of having their homes demolished as Israel attempts to expel them and replace them with illegal Israeli settlers.
The Irish Government must speak out now and act against this blatant ethnic cleansing by an apartheid state.
The IAWM is supporting the protest at the Dáil this Wednesday lunchtime, 07 July at 1pm, organised by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign. It encourages its members to attend if they can and to wear a mask, socially distance, follow all HSE guidelines regarding meeting up and follow the guidance of the stewards.
