The Irish Anti-War Movement

IRISH GOVERNMENT MUST EXPEL THE ISRAELI AMBASSADOR AND ENACT THE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES BILL

IRISH ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT (IAWM)
PRESS RELEASE – 22 MAY 2021
• IRISH GOVERNMENT MUST EXPEL THE ISRAELI AMBASSADOR AND ENACT THE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES BILL
• END THE SIEGE OF GAZA
• END THE OCCUPATION OF PALESTINE
• BOYCOTT ISRAEL
The IAWM is supporting the multiple Palestinian solidarity events happening around Ireland today and members of its Steering Committee will be participating in the main event at the Spire in Dublin at 2pm.
The list of events is here:

Global Day of Action for Palestine – Irish events!

The IAWM encourages all its members to attend one of these events provided that they do not have Covid or any symptoms, that they wear a mask, socially distance, follow all HSE guidelines regarding meeting up and follow the guidance of the stewards.
The IAWM welcomes the unconditional ceasefire between the Israeli Military and Hamas and other groups but says that the underlying conditions that caused this upsurge in violence remains. That is ultimately the denial to Palestinians of their basic human rights which is manifest through evictions, continued ethnic cleansing, land theft, discrimination, arbitrary detention and imprisonment and even extrajudicial killings – all perpetrated by a violent, racist apartheid regime.
The Irish Government must now censure the Israeli Government by enacting the Occupied Territories Bill and by expelling the Israeli Ambassador. Such actions would send a strong message of solidarity to the Palestinian people and warn Israel that it can no longer ignore international law and act with impunity.

Fatin Tamini a Palestinian member of the IAWM Steering Committee and Chair of the IPSC said:
“A respite to the slaughter is a welcome relief, but this unconditional ceasefire returns the region to the grim status quo that Israeli leaders euphemistically call “quiet”, but which leading human rights organisations such as B’Tselem and Human Rights Watch rightly call out as apartheid. Without jus-tice, there can be no lasting peace.”
Jim Roche, PRO of the IAWM said:
“We must highlight the horrific war crimes that Israel perpetrated in Gaza. The Israeli Military is one of the most sophisticated in the world and claims to carry out precision attacks. It has digital models of most buildings in Gaza and has details of the occupants. Yet it purposely attacked buildings and killed whole families including many women and children, destroyed the main Covid testing centre, demolished a media building for international journalists, attacked multiple schools and bombed the roads leading to Al Shifa hospital. This done, often without any warnings. Israel must be held ac-countable and punished for these flagrant war crimes.”
“We are of course so relieved by the ceasefire yet within hours we see Israeli armed forces attacking peaceful worshippers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, an act similar to the one that sparked this current war on Gaza. This is daily life for the Palestinians, being at the end of continued violence from a racist, supremacist regime. We in Ireland must offer what international solidarity we can to help Palestinians overcome their struggle for justice, human rights and freedom. That is why these solidarity events are so important today.”
