2. THURSDAY 8th AND FRIDAY 9th JULY

PALESTINIAN AUTHOR SPEAKS AT WEST CORK LITERARY FESTIVAL

The Palestinian author, Suad Amiry, is speaking at the West Cork Literary Festival.

The organisers of the event say:

"Suad is an extraordinary writer, activist and architect, who has set about saving Palestine’s architectural heritage through the NGO RIWAQ and also participated in the peace negotiations in Washington in 1993. She is an extremely funny, and sharp, writer – as seen in her bestseller, Sharon and My Mother-in-Law – and during her visit to Bantry will be speaking about her new book, Menopausal Palestine: Women at the Edge, in which she wonders if a woman’s condition can also affect a state-in-the-making! She looks at recent events through the eyes of the ‘PLO women’s generation.’ Her first seminar takes place on Thursday 7th July at 14.30 in the Maritime Hotel.

The next day, she will be reading from another forthcoming book – Nothing to Lose but Your Life – in which she disguises herself as a man in order to travel illegally into Israel, across the wall, with a group of young Palestinian men searching for work. This free reading will take place on Friday 9th July at 17.00 in Bantry Library.”

All details about the festival can be found at www.westcorkliteraryfestival.ie where bookings can also be made.
