The IAWM supports the following event this Friday:
Shannonwatch
A press conference will be held at 11.30am on Friday March 18th in the Oakwood Arms, Shannon, to outline the evidence linking Shannon Airport to human rights abuse and war crimes. Speakers will include former United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq, Denis Halliday, and Amnesty International Ireland board member, Dr. Ray Murphy.
The press conference will be followed by the delivery of the evidence to the Gardai at Shannon. As the volume of evidence and supporting documents is quite large, it will be taken in wheelbarrows from the Press Conference venue to the nearby Garda Station. Activists delivering the evidence will wear orange jump suits in rememberance of the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay Detention Centre who rendition planes may have passed through Shannon.
The delivery of evidence is in response to frequent requests from the Gardai for evidence linking aircraft using the airport to human rights violations and war crimes.

The event takes place on the eve of the 8th anniversary of the start of the Iraq war. Over 500 armed troops a day continue to transit through Shannon Airport, and no proper efforts have been made to address its use by U.S. authorities engaged in rendition activities.
