US AMBASSADOR TO FACE PEACE PROTEST IN GALWAY
The US Ambassador to Ireland, Kevin O’Malley, will be met by a peace protest in Galway tomorrow, Monday 27th April, at noon where he is due to address a Galway Chamber business lunch in the Meyrick Hotel. The protest is being organised by the local peace group the Galway Alliance Against War (GAAW).
In a press release GAAW’s spokesperson Niall Farrell stated:
“We are holding this peace event in solidarity with the millions of people whose lives have been lost or devastated due to the warmongering policies of Washington over the past 14 years.
“Recent research has shown that 1.3 million have been killed in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan due to Washington’s “war on terror”. And the present refugee crisis that has seen civilians perish in the Mediterranean stems directly from US militarism in Libya and the Middle East.
“Our peace event is also in solidarity with TDs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace, who ultimately face a prison sentence, because they dared to oppose Ireland’s support for this slaughter via Shannon airport. Deputies Daly and Wallace have committed no crime. War is the crime and US Ambassador O’Malley is the political representative in Ireland of those war criminals. The ambassador should not be feted, he should be ostracised.”

We are organising a welcoming party for the ambassador (assemble 12 noon for roughly 45 mins) to give him something to chew over.
*The Ambassador is the representative of a country that has been waging war for 14 years in the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa.
*In 3 countries alone: Afghanistan, Pakistan,& Iraq the US government is responsible for 1.3 million deaths.
*The actions of Washington are the immediate source of the refugee crisis in N. Africa & Middle East.
* The US stands along with Israel in rejecting national rights of Palestinians.
*Washington has turned Shannon Airport into a forward operational war base for the US military – with the connivance of successive spineless Irish administrations.
*In the context of Wednesday’s perverse judgement at Ennis District Court, which means TDs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace will go to prison for trying to end the criminal activity at Shannon airport, it is only appropriate that we should protest at the ambassador’s presence in Galway.
*Ambassador O’Malley is apparently a highly skilled lawyer then it is only proper that we let him know he is representing a state that is guilty of war crimes.
*The Chamber of Commerce Spring Business Lunch is being sponsored by KPMG. Note that KPMG has pocketed millions from Irish Water for consultancy fees. It is also the firm that was accused of playing a “grossly negligent” role in auditing US subprime mortgages, helping to trigger the financial crisis.
